In the first year you taught us so many things. We learned to be flexible and to never quit. We learned new ways of looking at the world. We continued to try to feed you everyday just so you would know the texture and tastes of food. We learned a new way to communicate with you because the doctors found out that your vocal chords don’t meet and so they told us they thought you may never speak. So we began teaching you sign language so that you would never have to live in a world where you couldn’t tell people what you needed. By the time you were 18 months old you smiled and slept for 4 hours at a time. We were ecstatic! You had tauught us to hope by watching your willingness to never give up!
